The Black & Silver is the Schnauzer equivalent to the Black & Tan in other breeds (ie. Rottweiler, Doberman) and most likely comes from the Miniature Pincher in it's ancestry. It should be noted however that the Schnauzer has a somewhat unique gene called the Chinchilla gene which changes the reddish hue of the "tan" points to the silvery.
